Raid: Shadow Legends — Champions, Classes & Squad Tactics
Assemble an alliance of Champions and lead them through a brutal world of challenging Dungeons, terrifying Clan Boss fights, and more. This guide breaks down the Champion types, the 12 classes, and how squads really work.
What Raid: Shadow Legends is
Raid: Shadow Legends is a turn-based, tactical battle-collection RPG. You recruit a roster of Champions, each with a unique class, role, and skill set, and then field them in squads of five to clear a fully-voiced Campaign across 12 striking locations, conquer Dungeons, and take on the massive Clan Boss with your clan-mates. Every choice matters: who you bring, in what order, and which skills you fire all shape the outcome of a fight.
The game is free to play and cross-platform, so you can pick up your progress on mobile or desktop. Progression is driven by leveling Champions, upgrading their skills, and forging gear — and the depth of the tactical layer is what keeps long-time players coming back.
Champion types & their tactics
Think of each Champion type as a tactical tool. No single type wins on its own — a strong squad mixes them so their abilities chain together. Here are the core types and the tactics each one provides.
- Tank / Defender — soaks damage, taunts enemies, and applies shields or damage reduction to keep the squad alive through long fights.
- Berserker — high single-target burst; used to delete a priority enemy before it can act.
- Assassin — strikes the back row, applies bleed and attack debuffs, and can dodge to survive.
- Mage — ranged AoE damage and crowd control (stuns, freezes, silence) to shape the whole board.
- Ranger — flexible ranged damage and utility, often applying poison or attack modifiers.
- Support / Healer — restores health, cleanses debuffs, and grants buffs like attack up or shield.
- Summoner — calls extra units to the field, flooding the board with bodies and pressure.
- Debuffer / Control — applies stun, freeze, silence, and other status effects to lock down the enemy team.
The 12 classes explained
Every Champion belongs to one of 12 classes, each with a distinct playstyle. Knowing the class is the fastest way to understand what a Champion can do in a squad.
- Tank — frontline damage absorption and taunts.
- Berserker — heavy single-target physical damage.
- Assassin — back-row strikes, bleed, and evasion.
- Mage — AoE magic damage and control.
- Ranger — ranged damage and debuff application.
- Support — healing, cleansing, and buffs.
- Summoner — summons additional units to fight alongside you.
- Warrior — balanced melee damage and durability.
- Guardian — shields and defensive buffs for the squad.
- Caster — burst magic damage and utility.
- Healer — dedicated sustain and recovery.
- Trickster — debuffs, disruption, and board control.
Squads: how they work
You field squads of up to five Champions. Turn order is driven by each Champion's speed, so a well-built squad lines up its key abilities in the right sequence. A typical composition pairs a Tank to hold the front, a Support to keep everyone alive, and a mix of damage dealers and controllers to finish the fight. Because every fight is turn-based and tactical, swapping a single Champion can completely change the result.
Squads are also the unit of progression: you level and gear each Champion individually, then combine them into the best five for a given Dungeon, Clan Boss, or PvP matchup. Building a deep roster across all 12 classes is what lets you adapt to any challenge.
How many can play
Raid: Shadow Legends is a free-to-play game with no hard cap on the number of players — millions of players worldwide join in, and you can play solo or as part of a Clan. Clans unlock cooperative content such as the Clan Boss, where members pool their squads to deal damage to a shared target and split the rewards. So whether you prefer to grind alone or coordinate with a full clan, there is a place for you.
Getting started
Start by playing through the Campaign to unlock Champions and learn the basics of turn order and skills. Focus on building one solid five-Champion squad with a Tank, a Support, and at least one strong damage dealer before you spread your resources thin.
Once your first squad is ready, join a Clan to access the Clan Boss and cooperative rewards. Keep leveling your roster across all 12 classes so you always have the right tool for the next Dungeon or fight.
